Tranmere Young Advisor Gets Healthy!
Young Advisor, Jamie Brown, was approached by her local health authority to examine how accessible health services were in their local community. Through working with the Primary Care Trust, Jamie, who takes a lead on health issues for the Tranmere Young Advisors, developed a questionnaire to discover how much young people knew about the services on offer in their area, and how accessible they found them.
Following delivering the questionnaire to over 100 young people, Jamie pooled together the results. The findings revealed that young people generally knew very little about local services, and that there should be much greater awareness raising aimed at young people, particularly for services which they might want to access quickly such as family planning, or sexual health services.
Jamie is now presenting her findings to the PCT board, and will be making recommendations on how these challenges can be overcome.
