Sefton Young Advisors Go to University
Over the last year, the Sefton Young Advisors have been working hard on how people are affected by Section 30 or Dispersal Orders (an order which gives the police the power to break up groups of people in specified areas should there be concerns about Anti Social Behaviour)
A Dr Joe Yates, Head of Criminology from Liverpool John Moores University, heard about this work and invited the team to meet with him. Following their meeting, the team were asked to present their research to 150 Criminology Students.
It would seem the lecture was just the beginning, and now the team are working with Dr Yates to see if their results can be published and promoted, training for which will come from the University.
Keen to do more, the Young Advisors are also teaming up with the University teaching staff to deliver workshops on their research. The outcome? Increasing numbers of people will have a better awareness of how these orders are implemented, and the impact they have on all residents, particularly young people.
