Young Advisors Wolverhampton: From NCS to Success

The Wolverhampton YAs

In November 2011 Young Advisors Charity was commissioned to train a new group from Catch22 Wolverhampton, based at the Shepherd Centre in the Low Hill area of the city. One of the group, Josh Young, a volunteer from NCS 2011, also took on the role of NCS Developer, and was trained by Young Advisors around the same time. Josh has taken on a peer leadership role with the group, who along with staff from Catch22 Wolverhampton, have taken on a number of challenges together:

The team set up an NCS Ambassador group, whose job it is to act as young leaders, gearing the project up for the following year’s NCS in a way that is youth-led. As part of this they went into local schools to advertise and recruit the programme, delivering presentations to peers, speaking to staff, and reflecting on how NCS helped to change them

4 members of the YA team also took part in a consultation in Sheffield with Mencap, where they were asked to help youth-proof a variety of volunteering opportunities. They gave advice on what could be done to attract more young volunteers, including advising them on how they put their offer across, and what incentives and support young people require

The team also led new NCS 2012 recruits in Spring In2 Action during May – their job was to welcome the faces into the Shepherd Centre, and take a leading role during a day of social action challenges. Check out the photos!

Spring into Action Challenge

As Young Advisors they’ve met regularly to discuss upcoming challenges, particularly around completing NCS YouTube Missions.
