The West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust 'Just 4 Youth' Young Advisors have achieved significant success in their role including work with:
Government Office North East - developed a training resource which is used in staff induction training with Government Office to show staff the importance of involving young people.
Middlesbrough Unite - delivered training session for staff on breaking down barriers and resolving conflict with young people.
Connexions Tees Valley - produced a young person's version of the 14 - 19 Learner Entitlement, a young person friendly document; which details what young people in Middlesbrough are entitled to under the 14 - 19 learning strategy within the town.
Middlesbrough Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership - Helped to develop a 'Guidance Document on Involving Young People'; defining the Top Ten Tips for involving young people. Worked with the strategic partnership to produce a guidance document for partners which outlines the best ways to involve young people; this work is supported by a toolkit which agencies can use to check their involvement of young people.
Children Workforce Development Council - Young People trained and supported as Young Advisors have carried out research with their peers on behalf of the Children's Workforce Development Council. Based on the five Every Child Matters Outcomes they researched what is young people's experience of service delivery and how would they would improve this delivery. The findings have been presented through workshops, facilitated by the young people and the production of a report and a DVD made by the young advisors.
CAF Locality Team - Youth Proofed Common Assessment Framework Referral Forms, produced a young person friendly document which enables young people to be understand and be able to self refer to the CAF process.
Stockton Youth Service - Training for Locality Panels - facilitated workshops with adults to improve the involvement of young people in Stockton community panels
Cleveland Police Authority - produced a young person's version of the 2008/08 Local Policing Plan - distributed to over 35,000 school children through secondary schools.
The Young Advisors have developed a function as a positive role model to their peers. Other young people aspire to take on the role and responsibility associated with being a young advisor and look to the young advisors for advice and guidance. Of the 20 young people who have gone through the Young Advisors Programme in West Middlesbrough, all have either moved onto full time education, training or employment.
