Hello all! Rosie here. So: I asked Lancaster Young Advisors if they had any questions for the network. They have... http://t.co/PcCHnWWmhr
We've been hearing of some great success stories from one of our newest teams, Leicester Young Advisors, as they took part in this summer's National Citizen Service, which is being run in partnership with us by our friends at Catch22. NCS is a summer-long programme for young people aged 16 who want to learn team-working skills, have fun trying new challenges, and work with their peers to lead their own social action project.
Leicester YAs' involvement isn't just as programme participants, they've also helped to recruit young people in their area onto the programme, and acted as peer mentors to those around them, plus they've taken a lead on evaluating the programme on behalf of Catch22 Leicester.
Our Development Officer Rich said: "It's been great to see our Young Advisors act as an inspiration to others over the course of such an important project. At a time when young people are getting a lot of bad press, our YAs are leading young volunteers in designing social action, fundraising, and learning about how they can improve their communities - and they've done so brilliantly."
Despite being one of our newest Young Advisor teams, Leicester have hardly paused for breath since they formed earlier this year. They've already been involved with their local NHS, conducting consultations are young people's sexual health consultation. Following that, they've been working closely with Leicester Children's Trust on reviewing the Children and Young People's Plan for the city. Finally, the YAs successfully secured office space within the town hall square - in practice, this means that our Young Advisors and the elected members for Leicester City Council are never more than a few feet from one another - not a bad way to ensure that young people's voices are heard within the city!
